I love being in Paris, and I don’t seem to care what’s open or going on in the city or NOT going on at any time in particular. Pierre is quite restless because so many shops have blacked out windows during August and he really relies on them for his visual stimulation. Just being in Paris, looking up at the buildings, seeing the people, pastry and open shop windows is so stimulating for me that I don’t react to this the same way he does. But take a look at the Paris photo album I've just posted to see the
fab things in some shop windows to be seen anyway, and more!
(Check back for more, I'm having a blog photo album learning curve block!)
Our friend Marie Aimee says that she loves Paris in August because it is more like her city again -- there are so many tourists in her wonderful neighborhood it gets overrun! And there is less of a feeling of what one must do in Paris, and just wandering around takes over. True, lots of great restaurants are closed, as was my favorite pastry shop, but perfumes are plentiful, and there's always a museum to go to, and a default pastry.......
I admit that it bugs me a little when almost everything is closed on Sundays, except for cafes and Souvlaki places, but that’s because it’s hard for me to get a snack when I want it, which isn’t very different from any other day………………I’m eating dairy products here, which I barely do in the States, but here it tastes so darned good. Pierre shopped at a Kosher/Halal place in our super ethnic neighborhood (thanks to friends who left us with their place) and got the best tasting milk ever, I swear I could taste the grass the cows munch on. Which brings me to our trip to Vienna………………and my beloved schlagobers (whipped cream is available with EVERYTHING, I swear).
Wendy,
You are looking so glam in this picture. Sounds like a wonderful trip. Continue posting. I love living vicariously through you!
