I got my Christmas present to myself on Thanksgiving, three minis from Aftelier, and I had to open it! Living in France, where we are not celebrating this wonderful American holiday, it took the place of a big dinner with friends.
Cuir de Gardenia is the olfactory equivalent of a Murmuration of Starlings, shifting its shape over and over. Deliberately conceived without top notes, on my skin it opens differently every time! Sometimes it starts out with a blast of Castoreum, other times the Gardenia is up front, alternatively it can begin with some facet of either of these rich scents, or even a completely unified sensation where the two have melded completely.
Mandy's new Cuir de Gardenia joins Cepes Tuberose as a Perfume Surprise, and if you, like me, love the latter, you will probably love this new one too. Once again she has succeeded again in divining a surprisingly perfect union of notes that do something together that no other perfume does.
I will continue to play with my precious drops of this scent until my little bottle is depleted. Hopefully she will continue to be able obtain these rare natural ingredients so that we can get more and more of this original creation!
Wow Wendy, thank you so much for your fabulous post - I’m honored to be part of your Thanksgiving! I love the analogy to the swarming birds - so variable and yet coherent & captivating.
